The bandh demanding special status to the residual state was supported by Congress and YSR Congress and was observed in all districts except Tirupati, where a total bandh was held on Monday in memory of Munikoti who set himself ablaze at a Congress rally.

Activists burnt tyres before APSRTC bus depots forcing cancellation of inter and intra-state services from Tuesday early morning. CPI cadres also forced petrol stations to close down, affecting almost all modes of transportation in the state.

Lorry owners and petrol pump associations had participated in the total bandh as a gesture of their support.

Student unions and the Youth Congress held rallies in Vijayawada demanding special status. Police arrested several activists belonging to the joint action committee for special status.
