“The contract killers tried to eliminate a former UP minister on more than one occasion in Raebareli town but could not succeed,” state Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Brijlal said here.
Incidently, the MLA, who faces charges of murder, extortion and kidnap, represents Raebareli city in the Assembly.
Three of the five killers, who were nabbed by the special task force of the UP police late on Friday night, hailed from Dhanbad town of Jharkhand, police said.
