Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears to be looking beyond 2019 general elections as he urged NDA allies to work towards realisation of New India by 2022, which will make the countrymen proud.
NDA allies passed a resolution hailing Modi as India's most popular leader after Independence, after a four-hour marathon meeting, which ended 15 minutes before midnight on Monday.
The prime minister, however, set goalposts for coalition parties that are spread from Kerala to Nagaland, for building an India that youth aspire for.
“Everyone should think what they should do for the country...Youth want to see New India. We should work accordingly... and create a mood towards New India,” Modi told leaders of different NDA partners. By then the country would have completed 75 years of Independence, a senior minister present at the meeting noted. Modi said delivery systems have to improve, focus should be on transition towards digital mode of payments and push for electoral reforms, including simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
He also urged the allies to consider convening the assembly in their respective states for a day to fix individual development agenda for the next five years.
The prime minister was aware that the sweeping mandate that the BJP has got, also comes with huge expectations and for meeting those the government must work with speed.
