On his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir after taking over as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is scheduled to review the security situation in the state with top security officers upon his arrival on July 4.
Sources told Deccan Herald that senior officers, including Northern Army command chief Lt Gen D S Hooda, would brief the prime minister about the security situation in the state and along India’s borders with Pakistan and China.
“Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would also brief the prime minister, who would have a luncheon meeting with Vohra,” they said.
“Modi is also scheduled to discuss with senior Army and intelligence officers the recent purported threats from al-Qaeda to extend its base to the Valley, fresh spurt of militant attacks in Pakistan, militants’s ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts through the LoC and International Border,” they added. The prime minister will be accompanied by Railways Minister Sadananda Gowda and Minister of State in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh during his one-day visit to the state.
