In the backdrop of his government battling farmer protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to speak to agriculturists on June 20 on developments and advancements in the agriculture sector.

As many as three lakh common service centres (CSC), created across the country by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, will be utilised to hold Modi's interaction with the farmers with active support from various Union ministries and departments.

“On 20th (June 20) at 9.30 am, I will be talking to farmers. On that day in your CSC centres...can you host them? I will talk to those farmers," Modi said while holding an interaction with the beneficiaries of his government's 'Digital India' initiatives on Friday.

He said that his government's 'Digital India' initiatives have not only “checked” black money and black marketing but also “uprooted the middlemen.”

"Middlemen are going to create trouble. Modi has created big problem for them. They will keep abusing from whichever platform they get but we have to take our nation to the forefront of the world,” Modi said.

Last year, farmer protests fanned across BJP ruled states and have kept the Modi government on tenterhooks since.

Regions such as Nashik-Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, Neemuch-Mandsaur-Ratlam stretch in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan’s Hadoti region covering Jhalawar, Baran, Kota and Bundi districts have witnessed unrest. Violence also ensued in Mandsaur as six protesting farmers were killed due to police firing on 6 June of last year.

The Opposition parties including Congress have picked up the issue of agrarian crisis and have been campaigning against the ruling dispensation in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 and the State assembly elections in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, Modi has been interacting with the beneficiaries of various welfare schemes rolled out during the four years of his government's term.

Since May 28, he has held as many as seven such interactions with the beneficiaries of various welfare schemes of his government which included the schemes for the healthcare of citizens, Start-Ups, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna, Mudra Yojna and Ujjwala.
