Ousted Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and currently part of the Swaraj Abhiyaan, social activist Yogendra Yadav on Monday said PM Narendra Modi’s much-touted Gujarat model was against the “idea of India”.

“Last year’s victory of Modi in general elections is seen as a victory of the Gujarat model of politics, touted as victory for a strong leader, an economic model which talks of growth at any cost, and finally one that builds social and cultural homogeneity. This is against the ‘idea of India’ enshrined in our Constitution,” said Yogendra at an event organised by the Gujarat Media Club.

He said the “idea of India” talks of democracy, development and diversity. “Modi’s politics is against all three. But we cannot blame him alone. Before him, the Gandhi family and the Congress had destroyed the fabric of democracy with dynastic rule,” he said.
