In a surprise development, both father and son of the first family of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh, spoke to senior JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav over the phone on Thursday. Top sources claimed that it is beginning of poll negotiations between the SP and the JD (U).

“Both of them. Mulayam and Akhilesh made telephonic calls to Sharad Yadav and talked about current political situation in UP. The most important part of this development is Mulayam calling Sharad Yadav because the SP patriarch has been opposed to truck with any of the parties including the Congress and our party. It seems, Akhilesh has prevailed on him to begin the negotiations,” a senior functionary of JD(U) told DH.

The calls were made in the evening after a truce formula between warring members of ruling clan was being formalized, claimed the leader.

The JD(U) has consistently been asserting that they would go for alliance only in the case that Akhilesh is in command of his party and leaders like Amar Singh have no role in alliance.

The JD(U) has been insisting on a grand alliance in UP to defeat the BJP. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had even suggested coming together of the BSP and the SP.
