The body of the missing internationally acclaimed gastroenterologist, Deepak Amrapurkar, was found on Thursday morning near the beach at Worli in the western seafront of Mumbai. 

Amrapurkar has been missing from the Prabhadevi area of central Mumbai since Tuesday, the day Mumbai recorded 325 mm rainfall in a span of 12 hours, resulting in a deluge, and disrupting life in the commercial capital.

Amrapukar (58), who was working with the Bombay Hospital and Medical Research Centre in south Mumbai, had lunch around 3.30 pm, after which he left for his home in Prabhadevi.

Due to the waterlogging, he had asked his driver to return when the car reached Deepak Talkies, saying he will walk home.

Eyewitness accounts report that he was last seen drifting towards a manhole. He was reported missing since.

On Thursday,  his body was located off the Worli Koliwada, having been fished out by locals and firemen. It was identified by the Rado watch that he was wearing. The post-mortem was conducted at Sion Hospital. 

He is survived by his wife and two children.
