An undertrial prisoner accused of committing arson and murder during the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots died in a district jail here, jail authorities said today.

42-year-old Brij Pal Malik was declared brought dead when he was taken to the district hospital yesterday, Deputy Jailer Nagesh kumar said, adding that the doctors stated that the prisoner died due to brain hemorrhage.

Malik was initially admitted to the jail hospital, he said.The body has been sent for post-mortem, he added.

Malik was sent to jail on January 30 for his alleged involvement in the riots that left more than 60 people dead and rendered many homeless
