Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Modi government saying he was not 'Savarkar' to apologise for his 'rape in India' remarks that BJP used to stall Parliament.
"BJP wants me to apologise for speaking the truth. I am not Rahul Savarkar. I am Rahul Gandhi. I will not apologise. Nor will anyone from the Congress," he said addressing the Bharat Bachao Rally at Ramlila Maidan here.
Hitting out at the BJP government, Rahul demanded that the Modi should tender an apology to the nation for "destroying” the economy.
The former Congress President said Modi has succeeded in doing what India's enemies had failed to do -- 'destroy India's economy'.
"Manmohan Singh and Chidamabaram warned him against implementing GST without a pilot project. But he insisted on going ahead," Rahul said.
He recalled that there was a time when this economy was growing at 9%, everyone talked about a bright future.
"But look at us today. There are people standing with onions in their hands. Onions have reached Rs 200 a kg," he said.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi, AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former finance minister P Chidambaram were among those who addressed the rally attended by thousands of party workers from across the country.
