The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested three persons, including a Myanmar national on charges of smuggling of arms and explosives from Northeast to Myanmar.

The NIA said the three were taken into custody after raids conducted in Aizawl, Champhai and Lawngtlai in Mizoram. The arrested accused have been identified as J Rohlupuia, Henry Siangnuna (Myanmar national) and C Laldinsaga.

The three were arrested in connection with the case registered after the seizure of arms and explosives by Assam Rifles at Kulikawn in Aizawl on May 1 last year.

"Investigations have revealed that Henry, who is a Myanmar national, in connivance with Rohlupuia had illegally purchased arms, by using the arms dealer license of Rohlupuia, which were further being transported across the border to Myanmar. During the search at his house, one smartphone with two SIM cards, one airgun, two compressed air cylinders, one Myanmar entry/exit document and an Aadhar Card were seized," the NIA said in a statement on Tuesday.

The NIA further said Laldinsaga’s explosive licence was used for procuring explosives from an explosives supplier firm in Guwahati, Assam for onward supply to Myanmar. NIA is continuing with its investigations in the case to unravel further links of the accused in the arms and explosives smuggling racket, it said.
