After tribes from the Hmar-Kuki-Zomi group, the Nagas in Manipur hill districts have called for a ten-day economic blockade to protest against the three ‘anti-tribal bills’ which were passed by the state Assembly on August 31.

The United Naga Council (UNC), apex body of Nagas living in Manipur, has called for the blockade from November 2. The Hmar-Kuki-Zomi communities on Friday had already announced a series of bandh and blockades in November.

According to UNC sources, during the ten days period, a ban will also be imposed on all national and international projects including the Trans-Asian Railways.

“After seriously reviewing the situation and the overall political situation prevailing in Manipur particularly in the hill areas, post the passage of the three Bills on August 31 as well as the two resolutions, the decision to impose the blockade was taken,” UNC stated.
