The Centre is mulling to declare ancient Janardana temple located in Wayanad district of Kerala as a monument of national importance.
The Union Culture Ministry has issued a notice of its “intention” in an official gazette on June 11 to declare the medieval temple as the monument of national importance, asking people to apprise the government of objections, if any they have on the move, within two months from the date of the notification.
The demand from the state government for the declaration of this ancient temple as a monument of national importance has been pending for 10 years.
“The Central government is of the opinion that the ancient monument like Janardana Temple is of national importance,” the Union Culture Ministry said in the gazette notification.
Any objection, on the move, could be raised to the Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India “within a period of two months” from the date of issuance of the notification, it also said.
“The objections, if any, received from any person with respect to the said draft notification shall be taken into consideration by the Central government,” the ministry added.
