Following the announcement of breaking of ties with Congress, NCP today withdrew support from the Prithviraj Chavan-led Maharashtra government.

Deputy Chief Minister and leader of the NCP legislature party Ajit Pawar drove to Raj Bhavan this evening and handed over letter of withdrawal of support to the Democratic Front government in the state.

Pawar was accompanied by the state NCP president Sunil Tatkare and PWD minister and senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, Raj Bhavan sources told PTI.

Chief Minister Chavan, when asked about NCP's withdrawal of support, said at a press conference that further steps would be taken after consulting the constitutional experts. The Assembly elections in the state are scheduled for October 15.
