NEET: CBSE moves SC against Madras HC order

The CBSE on Monday approached the Supreme Court, challenging a recent Madras High Court judgement that directed allocation of grace marks to students who wrote the NEET in Tamil.

The High Court's Madurai bench had directed the CBSE to grant 196 marks, that is four marks each for 49 questions, which were found to be erroneous in the Tamil translation of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test UG 2018.

The High Court had also ordered the CBSE to revise the list of eligible candidates.

The court passed the order on a petition filed by CPI(M) leader and Rajya Sabha member T K Rangarajan, seeking full marks for the 49 questions. The petitioner claimed key words in Tamil version of the questions were wrongly translated from English and this caused confusion among the students.
