The comprehensive free trade agreement between India and the UAE is likely to benefit about $26 billion worth of domestic products likegems and jewellery that are currently subjected to 5 per cent import duty by the Gulf nation, an official said.

Labour intensive industries such as textiles, leather, footwear, sports goods, plastics, furniture, agricultural and wood products, engineering, pharmaceuticals and medicaldevices, and automobiles would gain substantially from the pact.

The services sector segments which would get significant boost from the pact include computer-related services, audio-visual, education, health, tourism, travel, nursing, engineering, and accountancy, the official said.

Fisherman allegedly hit by speeding Coast Guard vehicle

A 29-year-old fisherman was injured when a speeding vehicle of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) allegedly knocked him down near the renowned Sri Kothandaramaswamy temple here on Sunday.

The vehicle, which was coming from Dhanushkodi, south-east of Pamban island, hit fisherman A Vignesh who was standing near the temple, local fishers said, claiming that the ICG vehicle did not stop to help the injured man.

The injured fisherman is from Natarajapuram Fishers Colony in Rameshwaram. A group of fishermen, who noticed the incident, rushed Vignesh to the government hospital here for treatment. He is said to be stable, they said.

Santa Monica Supercharger will officially accept Dogecoin as payment, making it the first Supercharger in Tesla's network to accept the crypto as a payment method.

Ukraine's Zelenskyy calls on Putin to meet as tensions soar

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, facing a sharp spike in violence in and around territory held by Russia-backed rebels and increasingly dire warnings that Russia plans to invade, on Saturday called for Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet him and seek resolution to the crisis.

“I don't know what the president of the Russian Federation wants, so I am proposing a meeting,” Zelenskyy said at the Munich Security Conference, where he also met with US Vice President Kamala Harris. Zelenskyy said Russia could pick the location for the talks.

"Ukraine will continue to follow only the diplomatic path for the sake of a peaceful settlement.”

In a discovery which has the potential to make Goa's beleaguered mining industry stand up and take notice, a study conducted by Goa University has revealed traces of gold in the iron ore harvested and exported for decades from the mining pits in the coastal state.

The study conducted by the Botany department of the University by its researcher Sujata Dabolkar and Dr Nandakumar Kamat, a faculty at the varsity, has revealed gold concentration ranges from 7.71-13 ppm indicating the auriferous (containing gold) nature of Goa's iron ore.

Global Covid caseload tops 422.8 mn

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 422.8 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.88 million and vaccinations to over 10.34 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Sunday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 422,838,196 and 5,880,263, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 10,341,207,797.
