The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday sought reports from the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir government following the violent clashes in the Valley following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

 Expressing its “utmost concern” over the developments, the commission has issued notices to the Union home secretary and the chief secretary of government of Jammu and Kashmir asking them to submit reports in the matter.

They have been given two weeks to respond, the NHRC spokesperson said in a statement after the commission took suo motu cognizance of media reports about numerous casualties and injuries in the clashes between protesters and security forces.

“It (NHRC) has observed that it is closely watching the incidents of violence in the aftermath of the killing of militant Burhan Wani in an encounter with the security forces on July 8,” the statement said.
