The Commission issued a notice to the East Delhi DCP recently, directing him to submit a report in the case within four weeks after a complainant accused the police of being negligent.

65-year-old Om Dutt Chauhan was on a morning walk along with his son when a speeding BMW car ran over him near Akshradham temple in east Delhi on April 8.

Relatives and eye-witnesses had alleged that Chauhan was not immediately taken to a hospital by the police and so he succumbed to his injuries. The Commission took up the case on the basis of a complaint filed by rights activist and lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy who accused the police of being negligent and pleaded for necessary action against the "erring" police officials."Instead of rushing Chouhan to hospital for treatment, police took away the accused leaving the victim on the spot," Tripathy charged.
