The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report from the Odisha government on the tragic incident in which a 12-year-old minor boy, son of a migrant labourer from Odisha’s backward Bolangir district, was tortured in Karnataka.

The boy broke one of his arms after he was allegedly beaten up with an iron rod by the owner of a brick kiln in Gulbarga district in Karnataka.

The apex human rights panel has also reportedly sought a similar report from the Government of Karnataka.

The minor, Sushant Kumbhar, is currently being treated by a seven-member team of doctors at Sriram Chandra Bhanja (SCB) Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha’s biggest government-run health facility. If sources in the hospital are to be believed, the doctors treating the boy are struggling to save his severely damaged arm as it has turned septic because of lack of timely treatment.

The brick kiln owner had allegedly not allowed the boy’s parents to take their son to a doctor after he was assaulted.
