The Bombay High Court has ruled that a woman is not entitled to alimony is she is wealthy herself. The judgement was announced as the court rejected the application of a resident of Nariman Point who had approached the High Court seeking an enhancement in the alimony granted to her by a lower court.

The division bench of Bombay High Court noted that “The woman is self-sufficient, wealthy and financially independent....keeping her financial status in mind, we do not find there is any ground for her to seek an enhancement,” reported Hindustan Times.

The woman who was divorced from her husband in 2002 had been awarded Rs 25,000 monthly alimony and a further Rs 25,000 was awarded for expenses towards the couples daughter but she wanted the alimony to be enhanced to Rs 75,000 a month.
