The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Tuesday told the Madras High Court that no cognisable offence has been made out against Chief Minister E K Palaniswami in a complaint lodged by opposition DMK alleging corruption in an award of road contracts.
Advocate General Vijay Narayan made the submission on behalf of the DVAC, after which Justice A D Jagadish Chandira reserved his order on the petition by the DMK seeking a SIT into the issue.
The DVAC's reply comes after the court asked it in August to conduct a preliminary probe into the complaints.
The DMK, in the petition, had alleged irregularities and corruption in the award of road contracts and has accused Palaniswami of abusing his power and allotting projects worth Rs 3,500 crore to his relatives and 'benamis'.
The Opposition party says Palaniswami awarded the contracts when he was the PWD Minister in J Jayalalithaa’s cabinet.
