The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to take up on urgent basis Tamil Nadu’s plea seeking direction to Karnataka to release 2 TMC ft of water from the Cauvery river.

A bench led by Justice D K Jain told senior advocate C S Vaidyanathan, appearing for Tamil Nadu, to “adopt normal course” for getting the matter listed in the court.

Tamil Nadu had filed a fresh application in the apex court on September 25, stating that direction for urgent release of water was necessary to help sustain the Samba crop in the state. Vaidyanathan sought immediate intervention of the court in this regard.

The court, however, pointed out that the application filed by Tamil Nadu was yet to be listed before it.

The bench said the application filed by Tamil Nadu did not figure in the “mentioning list (prepared for urgent hearing matters).” Hence, the state should wait till the plea was listed formally.
