Nobody has right to give fatwa on secularism: BJP

With Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launching a disguised attack on his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday said the party will announce its own prime ministerial candidate and that nobody has the right to give fatwa on secularism.

"The entire controversy doesn't make a sense and BJP has not outsourced to anyone outside party to make this sort of judgment," said BJP leader Balbir Punj.

"Nobody has right to give fatwa as to who is secular and who is not," Punj said, reacting to Janata Dal(United) leader Nitish Kumar's statement that the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) prime ministerial choice should be secular and acceptable to all constituents of the NDA - an obvious comment on Narendra Modi.

Punj said that Nitish Kumar was a minister in the NDA government at the centre in 2002.
