Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Sunday said she was not scared of the “legal notice” from Congress over her claims that Rajiv Gandhi Trust had grabbed 65 acres of farmers' land in Amethi.

Speaking at a function in Amethi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Irani said she would reply to the notice sent to her Saturday evening. “I have been warned for speaking against the Nehru-Gandhi family....I am not scared at all and will continue to raise issues concerning the common people,” the minister said.

Irani, who was in Amethi for the second time in less than a month, had earlier accused the Rajiv Gandhi Trust of “grabbing” 65 acres of farmers' land in Amethi.

She had alleged that the land had been allotted to a private company for setting up an industry but was later bought by the trust, which was controlled by the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Congress slammed the remarks and claimed that the land was transferred to the Trust after it bought the same in a court sanctioned auction.

On Sunday, the Union minister distributed thousands of saplings in Amethi and met some “Shiksha Mitras” (ad hoc teachers), whose appointments had been cancelled by the Allahabad high court, and assured them that the centre would look into their grievances.
