NRI surgeon Dr Mukesh Hariawala has been selected for the "India's Most Admired Surgeon 2012 Award" for his cutting edge innovations Titanium VAD (Ventricular Assist Devices), which functions as an "Artificial Heart."

The Boston-based surgeon has operated on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his first bypass surgery in the early 1990's in London. The award would be presented to him at the 5th Annual Pharmaceutical Leadership Summit 2012 in Mumbai in September, being organised by the healthcare bi-monthly magazine Pharmaleaders. "Dr Mukesh symbolises innovations in best practices and is very down–to-earth, someone who has spent nearly two-and-half decades in healthcare practice and has catapulted to the limelight after he operated the first Surgery to the present Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh," chairman of the 5th Annual Pharmaceutical Leadership Summit & Business Leadership Awards 2012, Satya Brahma, said. "Dr Mukesh Hariawala is reputed to be one of the safest heart surgeons in the world, with a 99.5 per cent success rate in bypass surgery," he said in a statement.
