Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who holds the finance portfolio, will present the state’s interim budget for the financial year 2021-2022 on February 23.

Assembly Secretary K Sreenivasan said in a statement that Speaker P Dhanapal has convened a session of the state Assembly at 11 am on February 23 at the Kalaivanar Arangam. Panneerselvam will present the interim budget as the tenure of the AIADMK Government ends on May 24.

A full-fledged budget will be presented by the new government that gets elected after the April-May Assembly polls. Sources said the government decided to present the budget on February 23 as there are indications that the Election Commission of India (ECI) might announce the dates for assembly elections in the last week of February or early March.
