Of Delhi victims, 22 died due to stone pelting or assault and 13 from gunshot injuries: Police

The police on Friday identified the cause of death of 35 victims of the communal violence in northeast Delhi -- 22 died due to fatal injuries from stone-pelting or physical assault and 13 due to gunshot injuries.

The police have managed to identified only 26 of the victims.

"As per the report available..., 35 persons have succumbed to injuries inflicted on them during riots (till Tuesday)..., 13 persons have died due to gunshot injuries and 22 persons have died due to severe injuries...," according to a police report.

The Delhi Police spokesperson separately said 38 people -- most of them in their 20s and 30s -- have died during the violence.

Hospital authorities have, however, put the toll at 42.

Those who died of physical assault or stone-pelting are Alok Tiwari (32 - died due to physical assault), Mohseen (25-physical assault), Salman (24 - stone-pelting), Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma (26 -physical assault), Ashfaq Hussain (physical assault), Dilbar Singh Negi (21 - physical assault), Mahroof Ali (32 - physical assault), Mehtab (22 - physical assault), Zakir (24 - physical assault) and Deepak Kumar (34 - stabbing).

Those who died due to gunshot injury are Amaan (18), Dinesh (35), Head constable Ratan Lal (42), Istayak (24), Mohammad Mubarak Hussain (28), Mohammad Mudassar (30), Pravesh (48), Rahul Solanki (26), Shahid, Vir Bhan (50), Mohammad Furkan (30), Shad Mohammad (35).

The police have not identified the cause of death of Rahul Thakur, Faizan, Nitin, and Vinod.
