Opposition parties on Wednesday rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s terming Dadri lynching as “unfortunate” saying the remarks have come in too late and that concrete action against those fuelling intolerance was the need of the hour.
“Will the prime minister tell the nation what action did he take against Mahesh Sharma, his minister? What action did he take against another minister Sanjeev Balyan? What action did he take against BJP leaders like Sangeet Som and Sadhvi Prachi and others,” Randeep Singh Surjewala, in-charge of the AICC communication department said in a statement.
NCP Chief Sharad Pawar hit out at Modi saying his statement on the Dadri lynching incident had come too late, and his government was bereft of “tolerance”. In remarks to a Bengali daily, Modi had also termed the cancellation of Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali’s concert in Mumbai following threat from the Shiv Sena as “undesirable and unfortunate”.
JD (U) president Sharad Yadav also criticised the Prime Minister saying that while he is quick to speak on the victories of the cricket team, he was speaking on the Dadri incident after much delay.
Congress said that it is not posturing that is needed but concrete action. CPI leader D Raja slammed Modi’s remarks on the Dadri incident as “too little and too late”.
