BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday said that his party and the NDA coalition will return to power with bigger gains.

He also said that the Congress-led grand alliance, referred to as the 'mahagathbandhan', was a mere illusion.

"In reality, it (grand alliance) doesn't exist and it's an illusion," he said.

"....I can say with the existing seats, the BJP under the leadership of Narendra Modi will make even bigger gain and come back to power with full majority," Shah told a summit of TV news channel.

Shah's statement comes in the backdrop of the BJP's defeat in the three Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

According to him, the standard of living of the country has improved.

"Lot of transformation had taken place and the scale of thinking has changed under his (Modi's) leadership," he said.

Shah said that Modi had not taken a single day off.

"He has worked as a visionary. Under his leadership, India has become a leader at a global level," he noted.

He said that the BJP-led NDA has changed the perspective of the people of the country, there is not a single case of corruption and the government has ensured national security.

"The BJP believes that the country needs a strong government. We will not ignore the problems and will work to solve the problems ahead and after the 2019 polls... both the BJP and the NDA will return with full majority... We are fortunate that a popular leader like Narendra Modi is leading us," he added.
