Light rain in the Capital on Friday brought smiles on the faces of residents as they had been bearing the brunt of power cuts and soaring heat for the past few weeks.

An overcast sky and scattered showers kept the mercury level below normal, but high humidity made life uncomfortable for some. “The rain was a partial relief. It cooled down the City but at the same time humidity has increased, making us feel uncomfortable,” said Neha Chandra, a resident of C R Park.

The light shower, however, did stop two-wheelers on their tracks with many people running for cover. “I hope flooding doesn’t happen on my way home. There is railway bridge near my house in Chanakyapuri that gets flooded every time it rains,” said Rakesh Saini, a marketing professional, who had parked his motorcycle on the road to stand under a tree.

The City received 11.6 mm rainfall and the humidity oscillated between 47 and 91 per cent. The maximum temperature was recorded at 38.6 degrees Celsius, which was one notch below normal, but significantly higher than Thursday’s 32.8 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperature too remained one degree below normal at 26.4 degrees Celsius and 2.4 points up from previous day’s 28.8 degrees Celsius. The Met department has predicted a partly cloudy sky on Saturday with possibility of light rain and thundershowers in some areas.

The minimum and maximum are likely to remain at 36 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively on Saturday, said the Met office.
