Panel set up to seek suggestions

A three-member panel has been set up by the Centre to review laws dealing with sexual offences against women.

It has sought suggestions from general public, non-government organisations and women's group within the next 10 days on the flaws with existing laws and how they could be modified.

Eminent jurists, legal professionals, and civil society members are also encouraged to give their opinion by January 5 as the panel has to submit its report to the government within 30 days.

Headed by former Chief Justice of India ,Justice JS Verma, the other members in the panel include former Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice Leila Seth, and former Solicitor General of India Gopal Subramanian.

The panel has sought views and suggestions for possible amendments to criminal laws  related to sexual assault of extreme nature against women. The suggestions can be sent by e-mail to justice.verma@nic.in  or through fax at 011-23092675.
