The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday rushed to the Supreme Court, a day after suffering an adverse direction on the demolition of a multi-level parking lot near the Taj Mahal.

Additional Advocate General Aishwarya Bhati urgently mentioned the matter before a bench presided over by Justice J Chelameswar. She sought direction for restoration of an application related to the parking site.

She submitted that the order for demolition was passed on Tuesday as the state counsel could not make his presence due to the overcrowded courtroom.

The bench said all this problem of overcrowding in courtrooms is because the high courts in all these years have been weakened. The court, however, put the Uttar Pradesh government's application for hearing on Friday.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit the Taj Mahal this week to inaugurate a number of facilities.
