In a major security breach, a passenger on Friday ‘accidentally’opened the emergency door and inflated the emergency chute, resulting in injury to a co-passenger.

The IndiGo aircraft, flight 6E 4134, was to leave Mumbai for Chandigarh on Friday morning.

IndiGo management and Mumbai International Airport Ltd have confirmed the incident.
“Just after the boarding was completed (while the aircraft was stationary), the passenger on seat number 12C suddenly opened the emergency exit door and inflated the chute slide,” an airline official said. In the process, a passenger seated at 12A received bruises, the official said.

The crew on board immediately alerted the captain-in-command, who in turn informed the ground staff and instructed them to arrange for medical assistance and other necessary action.

Simultaneously, the captain informed the 176 passengers on board via inflight announcement, and switched off the aircraft engine. The passenger who opened the emergency exit door was handed over to the security staff and the Central Industrial Security Force at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here.
