Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said that people may worship through different means but the intention remains the same. Bhagwat was speaking at an event at the Red Fort in Delhi where the Urdu translation of the Hindu scripture Samaveda by Bollywood writer Iqbal Durrani was launched.
Recounting a fable by Vivekananda, Bhagwat said that if people climb a mountain from various sides, they will end at its peak. “The world is in conflict now, and there is strife everywhere. The faith that each of us follow may vary, but the intention remains the same. We should not fight over the various means of worship,” said Bhagwat.
The Samaveda is one of the four Vedas of Hindus and is considered a foundational text of the religion. Bhagwat said that the Samaveda contains a distilled version of what is found in the three other Vedas.
Durrani said that Dara Shikoh had started the work of translating the Upanishads into Urdu, but was soon murdered by Aurangzed. He said though there was a pause of 400 years, the work of translating Hindu scriptures into Urdu has begun under PM Modi’s watch. He added that the Samaveda should be included as prayer at schools and madrassas.
