The Bombay High Court on Monday asked the Maharashtra government to revise the electoral rolls after rejecting five PILs that sought a stay on the 2014 Lok Sabha poll results.

Justices Abhay Oka and M S Sonak categorically stated that the revisions which can be carried out by inviting suggestions and objections through newspaper advertisements for electoral rolls revision will, however, have no bearing on the result.

The judges while admitting five PILs challenging the deletion of names from the rolls have asked the parties to file replies if they so desire within eight weeks. They refused to grant any interim relief to the petitioners seeking supplementary polls.

However, with the Assembly elections scheduled to be held later this year, the court directed the state government to advertise in three newspapers in Pune and Mumbai and ensure that the voters' list is updated.
