The director of a global firm director on Monday approached the Supreme Court urging it to direct the utilisation of over Rs one lakh crores of wealth estimated to be stored as a treasure trove in Kerala’s Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, for larger public causes like education and health care.

A three-judge bench presided over by Chief Justice P Sathasivam agreed to list the interlocutory application filed by Rajesh Nair for hearing on April 23.

Advocate Ravi P Mehrotra mentioned the application before the bench saying that Nair wanted to intervene in the matter in view of his family’s origin as well as educational background among other things.

The amicus curiae, senior advocate Gopal Subramaniam, recently submitted a 500-page report disclosing how systematic pilferage was taking place inside the temple.
