PM undecided on climate meet

“I have not decided yet. It is pre-mature to say,” Singh said when asked by newesmen accompanying him on his return home after visiting the US and Trinidad and Tobago whether he planned to attend the UN summit.

The prime minister said US President Barack Obama, French President Nikolas Sarkozy and Danish Prime Minister Andors Fogh Rasmussen have asked him to attend the summit.
Sources said the chances of the prime minister attending the Copenhagen summit are 50:50.

After talks with Singh on the sidelines of the just aconcluded CHOGM summit in Port of Spain, Sarkozy told newsmen, “India has nothing to lose and everything to gain by being in Copenhagen. If India is to be heard, it needs to be present,” Sarkozy said addressing a press conference here.

According to present plans, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh is due to represent India at the summit that will kick off on December 7.

Some 80 presidents and premiers are expected to attend the final days of the conference on December 17-18.
