The bar for election expenses in 1962 was Rs 25,000 for a Parliamentary constituency in a state and Rs. 10,000 for a Union territory.

For Assembly elections, the maximum limit was Rs 9,000 in Madras and Uttar Pradesh, Rs 8,000 in Bihar, Gujarat and Maharashtra, Rs 7,000 in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Punjab and West Bengal and Rs 6,000 in Assam, Mysore and Rajasthan.
