Senior lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan has been talked about a lot recently. He paid tribute to the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, on his death anniversary on December 26, through a social media post.
By sharing an image, he expressed regret for 'participating movement that vilified him and helped a rogue regime come to power.' "He was a humble, decent, well educated & well meaning man. His humility & decency was seen as a weakness," his post on X read. "I regret having participated in a movement that vilified him & helped a rogue regime come to power," he added.
After some deliberation on this matter, he has now clarified the his statement were 'misinterpreted' on social media.
"Since some people are misinterpreting my statement about Manmohan Singh, I wish to clarify that there was enormous corruption during the UPA govt, including in 2G & Coalgate; but the corruption & fascism that we are seeing today dwarfs the UPA corruption, he posted on X.
"By forming AAP, we hoped to usher in a new kind of politics of honesty, transparency, true democracy & policies framed in public interest," he further added while accusing the AAP leader, Arvind Kejriwal of betraying these policies and converting it into a normal party.
He added that his anti-corruption movement has unfortunately helped the BJP to come to power, which is not only thoroughly corrupt, but also communal, fascist, obscurantist & lumpen, which has done enormous & irreparable damage to India & our democracy, constitution & society.
Bhushan, who was in the forefront of the Anna Hazare-led anti-corruption movement against the UPA, had joined anti-corruption crusaders almost more than a decade ago to target Manmohan's government.
