President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and his council of ministers, a day after the Congress government lost its majority.

"The President has been pleased to accept resignation of V. Narayanasamy Chief Minister of Puducherry along with his council of Ministers with effect from February 22,” a notification from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar said the notification has been republished in the Gazette of Puducherry government. However, it is not clear as yet whether the L-G will invite the opposition to form a government or impose President's rule.

Narayanasamy resigned as Chief Minister on Monday after he was unable to prove his majority on the floor of the House.
