State transport killer driver Santosh Mane, who mowed down eight persons and left behind a trail of destruction on Pune’s streets on Wednesday, is said to have been on psychiatric drugs.

Mane was produced in local court on Thursday and remanded to police custody till February 3.
Mane (41) stole a bus from Pune’s Swargate Bus Depot on Wednesday morning before embarking on the murderous trail. He was produced before  Judicial Magistrate V B Bohra and charged with murder, attempt to murder, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, theft and damaging public property.

Government pleader Ujwala Pawar submitted that police custody was necessary because “investigators need to find out Mane’s movements prior to his committing the heinous crime and also discuss his behavioural issues with psychologists and psychiatrists.”

It is said that Mane, a Solapur resident, stopped taking psychiatric medicines prescribed for controlling “paranoid delusions” a month ago.
