The war in Punjab Congress on Friday landed in AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s court.
Former chief minister Amarinder Singh met Gandhi demanding the removal of his rival Partap Singh Bajwa as the president of the state unit.

Singh, a deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, has a long running feud with Bajwa, who was appointed as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president after the party lost the second consecutive Assembly elections in 2012.

Singh had been keeping low since the party’s successive electoral losses under his leadership, but his stunning victory in the Lok Sabha polls has encouraged him to wrest control of the party.

He defeated BJP heavyweight Arun Jaitley from the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency.
