Congress pursuing very low level of politics, discourse: Hardeep Puri

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday accused the Congress of pursuing "a very low" level of politics and discourse over Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha, describing the protests by the opposition party as "black attired fashion shows" and "melodramatics".

Puri also hit out at Gandhi for his “I am not Savarkar” remark, saying the “so-called allies” of the Congress have already reacted to it. "Veer Savarkar" was one of those freedom fighters who made “sacrifices of a very high order”, he added.(PTI)

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Thursday expressed hope that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will get "adequate punishment" by a court here which has "summoned" the latter next month in connection with a case lodged by the former.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha was the darkest day in Indian democracy.

NSUI holds protest against disqualification of Rahul Gandhi

The Congress-affiliated NSUI on Thursday held a protest in central Delhi against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha.

Carrying placards and a dummy bier with the slogan "loktantra ki arthi" (death of democracy) written on it, the protesters raised slogans against the ruling government at the Centre.(PTI)

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said no foreign diplomat has raised with him the issue of Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha, which was an outcome of a law "supported" by the Congress leader in the past.

Meghalaya Congress starts 'Jai Bharat Satyagraha' over Rahul’s disqualification from Lok Sabha

The opposition Congress in Meghalaya on Wednesday launched 'Jai Bharat Satyagraha' to protest against the disqualification of its leader Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha.

AICC media coordinator Bobbeeta Sharma told reporters that the programme will continue till April 8.

'Standards of judicial independence...', Germany reacts to Congress leader's ouster

In its first reaction to Rahul Gandhi's disqualification as an MP,Germany said that "standards of judicial independence and fundamental democratic principles" should apply in his case.

"We have taken note of the verdict of first instance against the Indian opposition politician Rahul Gandhi as well as the suspension of his parliamentary mandate. To our knowledge, Mr Gandhi is in a position to appeal the verdict," Germany's foreign ministry spokesperson said during a press briefing.

"It will then become clear whether this verdict will stand and whether the suspension of his mandate has any basis," she added.

Rahul Gandhi to launch nationwide agitation from Karnataka's Kolar, where he made Modi surname remark

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will begin the party's nationwide 'Satyamev Jayate' agitation on April 5 from Kolar, the very place where he made a remark on the Modi surname for which he was convicted of criminal defamation and was stripped of his Parliament membership, party state president D K Shivakumar said on Wednesday.

The KPCC chief said this during a joint press meeting with senior party leader and former Union Minister Anand Sharma.
