Congress scion Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took official charge as the party’s vice president and promised to practise “positive politics” to change the "acrimonious” political environment prevailing in the country.
“I think our political environment and the type of discussions that we have in politics are extremely acrimonious. We often fight with each other for petty reasons. I would like to reduce that. I don’t want to get down to negative politics or criticise anybody. I want to get down to positive politics,” he told reporters.
Only “positive politics” could take the country forward, said a visibly relaxed Gandhi, clad in casual blue jeans and kurta, making a brief statement for the media after assuming charge of his new office at All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters here, amid tight security.
“Lately, I feel, a lot of discussions are negative. There should be negative discussions also but there are a lot of positive things about this country, happening every day. Many youngsters are transforming things. I think that needs to be focused on. We are a dynamic country and this country can do wonders,” the Congress leader said.
Gandhi, who was elevated as Congress vice president at the party’s 'Chintan Shivir' in Jaipur last weekend, said he would make efforts to bring “change” in the country by making Congress accessible to as many youth and experienced people as possible”.
“Congress is the best instrument to bring youngsters into politics, to change things.
I think it is the most powerful instrument. What I want to do is to make the Congress accessible to youngsters and experienced people and try and use this to change this country," he said.
