Continuing with his efforts to rejuvenate the party through a candid interaction with its office bearers, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has decided to hold a meeting with pradesh Congress committee (PCC) chiefs and party leaders in the state Assemblies here on February 15.
“He will meet the pradesh Congress presidents and Congress legislature party leaders on February 15,” All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and in-charge of party’s media department Janardhan Dwivedi said on Thursday.
Gandhi recently held closed-door meetings with AICC general secretaries including those in-charge of political affairs in the states.
The “free and frank” meeting with the party’s senior office bearers, which continued for three days, made Gandhi realise that none was happy with the way the party was functioning and that there was a need to “rectify the situation” as the leaders vociferously complained about the prevailing system within.
Concluding the meeting on Monday, the party vice-president stressed on the need to go by the rulebook and “emotional unity”. He dubbed the party’s constitution as a “radical document” but said the need-of-the-hour was that “we implement the provisions properly”.
Swipe at UP govt
According to sources, Gandhi is holding these meetings to apprise himself of the problems being faced by them in various states and understand the steps needed to strengthen the organisation on the basis of the suggestions.

government for “lack of development” in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and said that the development of the state was possible only when a Congress government was formed.
Addressing a meeting in Amethi, his Lok Sabha constituency, during the two-day visit, Gandhi was fully aware of the problems being faced by the people of the area.
“UP has not developed the way it should have....there is no employment here,” he said. The Congress vice-president said that the UPA government was doing everything possible for UP but the state government’s response was not positive. “Give Congress a chance and then the state will develop,” he added.
