During the visit, Rahul interacted with students at five universities in five important cities – Gwalior, Sagar, Jabalpur, Bhopal and Indore.
The biggest controversy was caused by his visiting the Devi Ahilyabai Vishwa Vidyalaya (DAVV) at Indore, which happens to be under the control of the ruling BJP state government.
Following Rahul’s visit, the state’s Higher Education Minister, Laxmikant Sharma issued a notice to the DAVV Vice-Chancellor Devi Singh Sehrawat asking him to explain as to how the Congress leader was invited without the state government’s knowledge and permission.
However, no such notice was issued to the vice-chancellors of the other four universities as none of them is the state government’s control.
Expectedly, Congress leaders have reacted angrily to the issuance of the notice to the DAVV vice-chancellor.
Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who is himself a former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, said “before getting the notice issued, the state CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan should have thought of the number of programmes of the ABVP allowed in the state’s universities.”
The Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Campaign Committee, Ajay Singh said, “It appeared that the ruling BJP was rattled by the response to Rahul’s visit.”
The state Congress spokesman, Arvind Malaviya, said that the notice was issued as there was a “panic reaction” from the BJP to Rahul’s visit.
