As many as 20 people, including women and children, were killed in rain-related incidents in different parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The state was lashed by heavy rain in the past 24 hours. The overall flood situation in the state worsened following the increase in the water levels of almost all major rivers.

Six people, including two women, were killed when the roof of the house in which they were sleeping caved in during the rain on Tuesday night in Raebareli district, about 80 km from here.

Two people were killed when the roof of a temple collapsed in Ayodhya. Six others sustained injuries in the incident and were admitted to the hospital.

Heavy rain wreaked havoc in several parts of the state and hundreds of ‘kuchha’ houses collapsed. At least 50 houses collapsed in Chitrakoot district alone.

The flood situation in the state worsened further owing to a rise in the water levels of major rivers, including the Ganga. The situation is grim in Gonda, Lakhimpur-Kheri, Barabanki, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Ballia and some other places.
