The northern parts of Kerala continued to receive heavy rainfall as the South-west monsoon remained active in the state on Thursday.
Irikkur in Kannur district with 19 cm rainfall recorded the biggest rainfall of the day while Pookot in Wayanad district (18 cm), Nilambur in Malappuram district (16 cm) and Mattannur in Kannur district (15 cm) recorded very heavy rainfall through the day, the Meteorological Centre in Thiruvananthapuram said.
Other parts of the northern districts and Palakkad also received heavy rainfall. Since June 1, the state has received 299.6 mm rainfall, 22 per cent less than normal for the period. The Met Centre has also predicted thundershowers at most places in the state till Sunday.

Meanwhile, the delayed monsoon and subsequent power crisis in the state has led Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to write to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha seeking supply of surplus power generated in Tamil Nadu. The chief minister said in the letter that Kerala was willing to purchase power at rates and norms stipulated by the Tamil Nadu State Electricity Regulatory Commission. The delay in the onset of monsoon along with closure of hydel stations for repair had aggravated power crisis in the state, the chief minister said.
