Amid growing protests against the release of Padmavati, the Rajasthan government has decided to form a high-powered committee to review the movie.
State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said at a function in Jhunjhunu that if the committee finds scenes that hurt public sentiment, then Bhansali will be asked to remove them.
"We will not let the dignity of Padmini suffer at any cost. We will speak with the director regarding this issue," Kataria said.
The statement comes a day after Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Rajendra Rathore said that tampering with history in the name of entertainment will not be permitted at any cost.
Similar views were echoed by Education Minister Vasudev Devnani, who told the media: "Padmini represents the pride of Rajasthan. Scenes should be removed".
The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea seeking a stay on the release, saying that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) considers all aspects before granting a certificate to any film.
Rajput groups allege that the film wrongly links queen Padmavati with ruler of the Delhi Sultanate Alauddin Khilji.
Protesters vandalised posters and threatened to launch a statewide agitation outside cinema halls if Bhansali fails to remove the scenes.
The movie is slated for release on December 1. However, it could be delayed after Gujarat BJP vice-president wrote to the Election Commission, the Centre and the CBFC to defer the release.
