Realising that instability can mar investment climate, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday described Dadri lynching of a Muslim as “unfortunate” and appealed to citizen to maintain communal harmony. He said that it was “everybody’s responsibility”.

Singh’s comment comes a day after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in the US that these incidents “don't give a good name as far as the country is concerned”. Though the Modi government outrightly condemned the incident, BJP hotheads continue to make inflammatory speeches in a slanging match with Samajwadi Party leaders and Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan to keep the communal pot boiling.

A day after sending an advisory to all states seeking zero tolerance to communal incidents, Singh said, “it was an unfortunate incident.”
